When I was working, I wore suits, but at the time, they did not fit me well and I was uncomfortable. I never had suits altered other than shortening a pants hem.
When I retired, I donated my work-wear cheap suits to charity, thinking I wouldn't wear them any more. But when I was invited to a "business attire" occasion in 2021 that I couldn't decline, I realized that I needed to get a new suit.
I had enough money to invest in a good-quality suit, so I upgraded my game from buying cheap off-the-rack, "one size doesn't-fit-all" crap, to getting a good quality wool suit from Brooks Brothers. I had them tailor it to fit me by adjusting the fit of the jacket, drape of the shoulders, sleeve length, and most importantly, the length of the trousers and pant break (how your pant fabric looks when it sits atop dress shoes).
I learned that a modern, properly tailored suit can be quite comfortable. A pant break that accents dress shoes well completes the look.
Thus I began my journey into buying and enjoying wearing men's business suits and what some would call a "suit fetish." Suits that are well-made with quality fabric are comfortable and make me feel like a million bucks. And being a shoe guy, I like how you can see my shoes when I wear a suit.
I get invited to events with a "business attire" dress code more often, and am comfortable and confident now suiting up for those occasions. Those events may occur about 6 - 8 times each year. But like with my investment in quality leather garments, I choose to wear suits more often than for events. I wear them several times each week around home, just because I like them!
I updated my wardrobe with several quality suits and blazers in 2021 and 2022. I bought my first custom (bespoke) suit in 2023.
A guy in a suit is pleasant on the eyes. So is a guy in a dress shirt and tie. I like to be that guy. I wear my suits with dress shoes or dress boots in my vast collections.
These Brooks Brothers suits were not tailored because I bought them too small.
I learned that tailoring the fit is incredibly important as these suits don't fit that well.
